Fire Extinguisher Signs

The positioning for escape route signage is crucial.

You need to provide clear instructions for a safe means of escape. These signs should provide people with all the information they need in a potentially stressful and harmful situation.

You should have signage from all areas of your building, to enable the escape routes to be clearly determined.

It is just as important to label any fire fighting equipment, as easy identification is best in emergancy situations.

Bearing this in mind, there are three types of mounted signs available for your consideration.

Type 1: Parallel wall mounted sign. Surface printed. Viewing area of 90deg from straight ahead.

Type P: Panoramic signs. Has the greatest visability at 180 deg from straight ahead. These signs have two printed exterior surfaces.

Type 3: Suspended double-sided sign, to be hung from a ceiling. Has viewing area of 90 deg from each side.

In order to chose the appropriate sign, you should first consider the layout of the area and the maximum viewing distance of the sign.

For a sign 100mm x 100mm the maximum viewing distance is 9.6m

For a sign 150mm x 150mm the maximum viewing distance is 15.6m

For a sign 200mm x 200mm the maximum viewing distance is 21.6m

For a sign 300mm x 300mm the maximum viewing distance is 33.6m

For a sign 400mm x 400mm the maximum viewing distance is 45.6m

For a fire extinguisher location sign the viewing distance should be between 2.0 and 2.2m

For a fire extinguisher identification sign the viewing height should be between 1.2 and 1.5m

For escape route signs positioned above doors the viewing height should be between 2.0 and 2.2m

For escape route signs positioned on walls along an evacuation route, the viewing height should be between 1.7 and 2.0m
